Butterfly Mobile

Hang a piece of the outdoors inside with this brilliantly colored Butterfly Mobile.


Materials Needed:

 

  • Trait-tex® Heavy Rug Yarn - Black, Approximately 28"

  • 1/4" Beads – 5 Blue and 5 Green, plus 6 more Beads in assorted colors.

  • Bell

  • Printer - To print out pattern.

  • White School Glue

  • 1/4" Hole Punch

  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Create Large Butterfly: Using pattern (Butterfly Pattern.pdf) cut one Large Butterfly Wings from a Yellow Array® Card Stock and one Large Butterfly Body from a Black Array® Card Stock. Glue Large Butterfly Body to Large Butterfly Wings. Decorate with shapes cut out of Array® Card Stock. Set aside to let glue dry.

2. Create Small Butterflies: Using pattern (Butterfly Pattern.pdf) cut one Small Butterfly Wings out of a Pink Array® Card Stock and one out of a Orange Array® Card Stock. Use the 1/4" hole punch to punch a hole in the top and bottom of each Small Butterfly as shown on the pattern. Take the the 5 Blue Beads and glue them to the Pink Butterfly and the 5 Green Beads and glue them to the Orange Butterfly (make sure the top and bottom beads are positioned over the holes you punched. Decorate with shapes cut out of Array® Card Stock. Set aside to let glue dry.

3. Assembling Your Butterfly Mobile: (Make sure all of your pieces are dry). First use the 1/4" hole punch to punch a hole in the top and bottom of the Large Butterfly body. To tie all of your Butterflies together, cut one 10" piece and three 6" pieces out of Black Trait-tex® Heavy Rug Yarn. Using the 10" piece make a loop off the top of the Large Butterfly for hanging your mobile. Tie the two Small Butterflies, one below the other, to the Large Butterfly with two of the 6" pieces. With the last piece of 6" cording tie one end to the bottom Butterfly, add 6 assorted colored beads and tie a bell to the very end.
